A Musical Celebration of Grinling Gibbons
Concert Series
The Grinling Gibbons Society in association with The Friends of the City Churches present a series of concerts set against the evocative backdrop of Gibbons’ carved reredos at St Mary Abchurch in the City on consecutive Thursday evenings in spring.
Grinling Gibbons was noted by John Evelyn for a being a musical man. His passion for music can be seen in many of his carvings featuring a variety of woodwind, brass and stringed instruments, as well as musical notation, precise in every detail. In a fitting tribute to commemorate Gibbons’ tercentenary, concert series director, Christina Hemsley (GGS), has created a four-part musical feast that celebrates Britain’s greatest baroque carver.
