NOTES ON THE ARTWORK

Two years after Gibbons was chosen as Second Master Warden, he progressed further in the annual elections by being selected to become Master Warden, a position just below that of Master. Gibbons was chosen also for the second time ahead of the other candidate, John Watson. This was however to be the highest position Gibbons would hold within the Company. His two nominations to become Master failed against the other candidates, both of whom were Aldermen.
