This entry in the Drapers’ Company’s Freedom book (1567-1656) records that on 12th September 1630 James Gibbons, the father of Grinling Gibbons, was made Free of the Company having served an apprenticeship to Laurence Halsted, who was a significant overseas merchant and a senior member of the Drapers’ Company.
